Phone consultations are complimentary and intended to discuss your concerns, observations and any other feedback you have received from other professionals about your child's speech, language or oral habits. From there, we will determine whether further screening or assessment is warranted.
A brief speech-language screening to determine whether your child communicates within normal limits for their age or whether they may have a weakness that needs further assessment/treatment. A screening is not an in-depth assessment and only takes about 15 minutes.
Formal and informal assessments are conducted by a certified SLP to determine your child's current strengths and weaknesses. The outcome of an assessment is a clinical decision regarding your child's need for treatment, helps to determine the focus of treatment, and identifies the need for any referrals. Formal assessments will typically include standardized assessments; results will be provided in a comprehensive report with recommendations and suggested therapy goals. The results of informal assessments will be provided orally with recommendations for therapy goals.
A suggested plan will be shared with you based on your child's individual needs and the results of the evaluation. Speech-language therapy sessions typically take place weekly for 30, 45 or 60 minutes. The frequency and duration of treatment will be determined by severity and type of disorder, and your child's suggested goals.
